Farm diversification is currently high on
the agenda of both the Department for Environment, Food and Rural
Affairs (Defra) and the agricultural industry. It may involve changes
to agricultural practices which do not require planning consent,
but often it incorporates new uses for farm buildings or land, and
in such cases we are able to offer informed advice.
Traditional farm buildings are
usually inappropriate for modern farming practice, but lend themselves
to a variety of different alternative uses. We can advise on the
most appropriate use and assist in obtaining planning consent.
Planning policies vary considerably
from authority to authority, so we take particular care to frame
every planning submission to ensure that it will meet the specific
requirements of a particular authority.

Many new farm buildings are covered by the Agricultural Notification
system. We are familiar with the parameters of this system and can
offer advice to farmers to ensure that you get the building you
want in the location that will work best for the holding.
